Flood Plain Administration

Flood Plain Administration for properties inside Ruston is managed through the Permits and Inspection Office.

It is the goal of the City of Ruston to promote awareness of floodplain management issues, to administer existing floodplain development ordinances, to address storm-water and drainage issues in new and existing developments, and to seek solutions to existing flood problems.
 
The City participates in a voluntary flood insurance program, the Community Rating System, which has given Ruston citizens a 5% discount on flood insurance premiums. The goals of the program are to (1) reduce flood losses; (2) facilitate accurate insurance rating; and (3) promote the awareness of flood insurance. Some of the City’s program activities are:
 
  • Educational programs related to flood plains and flood insurance
  • Educational information mailed to realtors
  • Notification letters to owners of property in or near a flood plain
  • Archives of floodplain determinations
  • Copies of elevation certificates for properties built in the flood plain since December 15, 1991.
