Volunteer Coaches
Be a Coach. Build Memories for Life.
We’ve all seen the Ad Council’s television commercials recommending parents to be involved in their children’s lives. It all looks good, but you may be wondering how to make it happen. Ruston Parks and Recreation has the answer…become a coach.
You not only get involved in your child’s life, but into the lives of many children. You serve as the role model and at the same time are building fun memories with your own child.
The great thing is that it is easy to get involved. RPAR is looking for coaches for its youth basketball and soccer programs. We ask only that you provide a positive attitude, teach the fundamentals of the sport, coach at practices and games for a few hours a week, emphasize sportsmanship…and most of all let the children have fun!
There is another benefit as well. Upon completion of the season, coaches receive a letter stating the qualifications for getting a $500 deduction on Louisiana state income taxes.
If you are interested, we need you. It’s as easy as 1-2-3:
1. Contacting the Parks and Recreation office at 255-5800 or emailing at RPAR@Ruston.org.
2. Filling out an application.
3. Showing up to practices and games…and building memories with your child.
You are connecting with your child, providing some community service, and getting a tax break. It’s a win-win for everyone! Please become a volunteer coach!

Recreation Volunteers Get Tax Deduction
A new law called the Marchand Act No. 458 was recently adopted by the State of Louisiana. This new law could potentially provide a deduction on your state income tax return provided you volunteer at least 30 hours of service to a recreation department. The key is that the recreation department must be operated by the State of Louisiana, which obviously includes RPAR. So, get involved – volunteer!!!!!
