Recycling is only one part of a three-part strategy in the recycling loop.
The other two parts are "reduce" and "reuse." These two strategies are actually more effective than the "recycle" component alone. Consider, before each purchase, creative ways you can reduce your need for the product. Also consider the package that it comes in. Is it "Earth friendly"? Can it be recycled in our community? At every opportunity, buy products made from "post-consumer" recycled materials (% content will be listed on the package). This is the most crucial aspect in closing the recycling loop. If there is not a demand for products made from or packaged in recycled materials, then the collection process is irrelevant.
Services for recycling and reclaiming other items are offered by local Ruston businesses and other entities within Louisiana. Any businesses who would like to add services to this website, please contact the Lori Faile, Development Services Manager for the City of Ruston at 318-251-8644 or email ruston21@ruston.org.
