Squire Creek Louisiana Peach Festival set June 22-23
It’s Peach Festival time in Ruston! The 2012 Squire Creek Louisiana Peach Festival is the fourth weekend in June. The fun begins on Friday, June 22 and runs through Saturday, June 23. Admission is charged for ages 7 and over.
There´s live music downtown nightly on the Railroad Park stage beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday with Grammy Award-winning Zydeco musician Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band. Tickets are $5. Saturday also features music in the park beginning at 7 p.m. with the Arkansas Brothers, followed at 9 p.m. with this year’s headliner, Louisiana’s own Sammy Kershaw. Tickets are $10.
Kershaw, from Kaplan, has had more than 25 singles entered Top 40 on Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including the No. 1 hit “She Don’t Know She’s Beautiful.” In 2008, Kershaw was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in honor of his career achievements. Two years later, in 2010, he was inducted into the Louisiana Songwriters Association Hall of Fame.
The festival also includes approximately 200 artisans and vendors of all types, both at Trenton Street Marketplace and at the Ruston Civic Center. There is a parade, antique cars, a rodeo, tennis tournament, 5K run, cookery contest, rides and amusements, and more.
