Street and Drainage

The Street and Drainage Department maintains 115 miles of City owned streets and approximately 300 miles of public drainage systems. This includes installing and maintaining street and traffic control signs and pavement striping on City streets, street sweeping, right-of-way mowing and litter control, trimming limbs or vegetation that is obstructing traffic flow, and right-of-way beautification projects.
The City assists property owners with driveway installation on City streets and insures that culverts will provide adequate drainage. Permits are required for street cuts and borings on all City streets.
During emergencies, such as hazardous materials spills or extreme weather events, the Street and Drainage division is one of the primary responders, along with the Light and Power Department, Police Department, and the Solid Waste Division.
The Street and Drainage Department can be reached at 318-242-7703 on weekdays, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for information about or to report any of the following:
- Potholes in streets
- Damaged Sidewalks or Street Curbs
- Street Sweeping
The City’s Street Sweeper runs along a scheduled route each day. Downtown and high volume streets are swept daily. Subdivision streets are swept once each month.
- Improperly Flowing Storm Water Ditches
- Blind Corners Or Intersections
- Low Limbs Over Streets
- Flooding
- Missing Or Damaged Traffic Signs
- Driveway Installation
- Street Cut Permits for Utilities
- Street Closures
