The mission of the Wastewater Division of the Department of Water Utilities is to provide safe, efficient means of collecting and treating sewer wastewater generated by the residents and businesses of Ruston. We pride ourselves on operating in compliance with all Environmental Protection Agency, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and Department of Health and Hospitals rules and regulations for the collection, treatment and discharge of sewer wastewater, while providing the maximum protection possible to the environment. Our activities revolve around the following areas:
-
Wastewater Collection – operating and maintaining an efficient system for the collection and transportation of wastewater from the user to the point of treatment at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
-
Wastewater Treatment – operating and maintaining a current and up-to-date treatment facility that will treat the wastewater delivered from the end user to a level that is safe and protective of the environment prior to discharge.
-
Environmental Programs – developing and implementing programs to monitor and control wastewater quality discharged into the system by commercial and industrial users, including a Commercial/Industrial Wastewater Pretreatment Program, and a Grease management and reduction program for restaurants and other food preparation facilities through the inspection of grease traps and interceptors.
