Louisiana Film Prize Competition Expands Filming Locations to Include Lincoln Parish

Ruston, LA – Lincoln Parish has recently been added to the list of designated filming locations for the Louisiana Film Prize, a short-film competition that awards $50,000 to the winning director.

The location addition is the result of a partnership between the City of Ruston, Experience Ruston, and the Louisiana Film Prize. The partnership was initiated after several filmmakers requested to film in the Ruston and Lincoln Parish area, which was not previously recognized as a designated filming location for the competition.

“The filmmakers were wanting to film on Louisiana Tech campus — we get a least a half dozen requests to do that every year,” said Prize Foundation Founder and Executive Director Gregory Kallenberg.

Film Prize, now in its eight year, is an economic driver for North Louisiana, having generated more than $15 million locally since it launched in 2012.

A Film Prize Kickoff Party will take place in Ruston on Thursday, February 21 for those interested in learning more about Film Prize and how to get involved as a filmmaker, crew member, etc. The event will be held at the Norton Building in downtown Ruston and will begin at 5:30 p.m. The Louisiana Film Prize staff will be present to meet potential filmmakers, answer questions, and screen last year’s winning film.

“Ruston and Lincoln Parish are so excited to be joining the Film Prize family,” said Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker. “This is such a unique opportunity for our community, one that we believe will enhance our economic growth and provide some valuable exposure for the area.”

To be eligible for the Louisiana Film Prize, independent filmmakers must produce an original short film ranging from five minutes to 15 minutes in designated parishes in North Louisiana. For additional guidelines and to register for Film Prize, visit lafilmprize.com.
