Materials Inventory of the Distribution System:
The City of Ruston has approximately 180 miles of water lines in its distribution system with approximately 9,500 meter connections. Of those 180 miles, approximately 1.4 miles are PE, 9.3 miles are C900, 77.21 miles are cast iron, and 92.80 miles are PVC.
Our 5/8-inch x 3/4-inch and 1-inch meters are Sensus SR II models, which are low lead and are compliant with key legislation, including the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 and the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act of 2011.
Our meters 2-inch and larger meters are Sensus C2 and T2 models, which are lead-free and constructed with coated ductile iron.
We estimate that, of the 5,298 single-family homes within the City of Ruston, approximately 3,744 were built before 1983.
The water distribution system may contain components made from the following materials:
Examples include:
* Internal fire hydrant components before 2014
* Brass fittings installed before 2014 that contain lead alloys
* Copper service lines
* Customer homes with lead components and lead solder plumbing fixtures
* Customer homes with copper plumbing fixtures and piping
