The City of Ruston is recruiting for the following position:

Title: Building Inspector

Reports To: Building Official 

SUMMARY of Duties:

•    Inspects new and existing buildings and structures to enforce conformance to building, grading, and zoning laws and approved plans, specifications, and standards by performing the following duties:
•    Inspects residential, commercial, industrial, and other buildings during and after construction to ensure that components such as footings, floor framing, completed framing, chimneys, and stairways meet provisions of building, grading, zoning, and safety laws and approved plans, specifications, and standards.
•    Observes conditions and issues notices for corrections to persons responsible for conformance.
•    Obtains evidence and prepares report concerning violations which have not been corrected.
•    Interprets legal requirements and recommends compliance procedures to contractors, craftworkers, and owners.
•    Keeps inspection records and prepares reports for use by administrative or judicial authorities.
•    Reviews request for building permits.
•    Inspects building and foundation for conformance to specifications and codes.
•    Reviews and interprets plans, blueprints, specifications, and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements.
•    Measures dimensions and verifies level, alignment, and elevation of structures and fixtures to ensure compliance to building plans and codes.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
Two (2) years of.experience in municipal inspections or construction knowledge (Preferred) CERTIFICATION

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess at least one ICC Residential Inspector Certification (Ml, Pl, Bl, or El) upon hire or obtain it within 6 months of employment. Additionally, obtain one more certification yearly until all are acquired.
Must possess a Valid LA Drivers' License

Pay: $22.79 per hour
